Confirm an Ohio DRC Release
The ODRC Offender Search expressly includes Released, APA Supervision, and Violators at Large. That makes it far more useful than a current-only prison list. Search broadly first. Too many filters can hide the right record, and County of Commitment is not the same as present residence or institution.
- Use the offender number when known, including its A, R, or W prefix and six digits.
- Otherwise search by last name, then add the first name to reduce same-name results.
- Begin with All, or select Released and APA Supervision when the custody history is clear.
- Add Putnam as County of Commitment only after a broader search if narrowing is needed.
- Open the detail and compare offender number, conviction, sentencing county, case, and sentence dates.
- Read the exact status, Expected Release Date/Parole Eligibility Date, post-release control, and hearing fields together.

The combined date label matters. For a definite term, it may function as an expected release calculation. For an indefinite or life sentence, it may identify eligibility for board consideration. Eligibility allows review; it does not guarantee release. BOP, ICE, and county jail records use different systems and should never be merged into the ODRC label.

Use ODRC Central Records for public parts of an admission and release chronology when the online detail is not enough. Identify the person and offender number. Ask for sentence computation fields, release authority or type, supervision status, public incarceration history, and a public photograph when relevant. Confirm the current submission address through ODRC’s public-record channel before sending because routing can change.

Ohio Revised Code 5120.21 generally protects inmate records but says the statute does not prohibit disclosure of name, criminal convictions, photograph, supervision status, current and past place of incarceration, and disciplinary history. A precise request respects that division. Protected medical, case-management, security, and other material may be redacted.
The sentencing court is the second records contact. Ask Putnam County Common Pleas for the docket and signed journal entries by case number. Court language can explain prison commitment, consecutive terms, jail-time credit, judicial release, or later action that the offender-search summary compresses.
Putnam Prison Release Calculations

Putnam ODRC Supervision Records
Prison release and supervision discharge are separate milestones. Ohio Revised Code 2967.28 governs post-release control. Parole applies to eligible sentence structures, while post-release control follows other prison sentences when imposed. The Ohio Adult Parole Authority administers state supervision, and the ODRC search can show APA Supervision.
Verify the offender number and Putnam sentencing case before interpreting supervision. ODRC notes that a displayed supervision period can relate to a prior offense rather than the offense being researched. A Violator at Large result is not release completion. The shown address is last recorded, so it should not be used as proof of present location.
